Jamaica Tallawahs – Time to re-group & retaliate

Jamaica Tallawahs team represents the island country of Jamaica in the Caribbean premier league. They are one of the six teams to feature in the inaugural edition of the CPL in 2013 and they went to win the title in the inaugural season. The team is owned by Worldwide sports management group. Jamaica Tallawahs are one of the three teams to win the CPL title and has won the title twice so far. Sabina Park and Central Regional Park in Jamaica are their home grounds and they possess a superb home record on these grounds. But unfortunately, no matches are scheduled to be played at these venues this season. Jamaica Tallawahs will look to add one more title to their showcase this season.

Squad

Now, let`s analyze the team combination, squad strength, and different player options available in the team for the 2020 season. Jamaica Tallawahs changed their squad composition for this season completely as they retained only 5 players from last season`s squad.

Captain: Rovman Powell

Rovman Powell is an exciting young batsman and will lead his team for the first time this season. He has good experience playing matches in the West Indian domestic circuit and international format too.

Batsmen: Asif Ali, Andre McCarthy, Nicholas Kirton

Asif Ali is a big-hitting batsman from Pakistan who has made a name for himself in league matches in recent years. Andre McCarthy and Nicholas Kirton have good knowledge of the local West Indian conditions and will serve as effective back-up players for the team.

All-rounders: Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Nkrumah Bonner, Jeavor Royal

Andre Russell and Carlos Brathwaite are the two of the biggest names in the T20 circuit known for their big-hitting capabilities all over the globe. They both can also bowl their quota of 4 overs for them in most matches. Nkrumah Bonner can play the role of an anchor if a heap of wickets falls soon. Jeavor Royal will be their reserve player in the squad.

Wicket-Keepers: Glenn Philips, Chadwick Walton

Chadwick Walton and Glenn Philips are expected to open the batting this season as they miss the services of Chris Gayle this year. Both players have vast experience playing in the T20 leagues.

Bowlers: Oshane Thomas, Fidel Edwards, Veerasamy Perumal, Sandeep Lamichchame, Preston McSween, Ryan Persaud

Oshane Thomas and Fidel Edwards have played for West Indies and are excellent pace bowlers who can bowl over 140+kmph consistently and trouble the batsmen. Sandeep Lamichchame and Veersamy Perumal will slot in as spinners in the absence of Tabraiz Shamsi who missed the league owing to travel issues this season. Preston McSween and Ryan Persaud will have to wait for the opportunities in the playing XI in the first few matches.

Expected starting XI

Rovman Powell (C), Asif Ali, Glenn Philips, Chadwick Walton, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Oshane Thomas, Fidel Edwards, Veerasamy Perumal, Sandeep Lamichchame, Nkrumuh Bonner

Remaining Players: Andre McCarthy, Nicholas Kirton, Preston McSween, Ryan Persaud, Jeavor Royal

CPL 2020 Prediction

Jamaica Tallawahs have a fairly new team composition after their poor showing last season and also a new captain in charge. They have an excellent batting line-up with quality top-order and middle-order big-hitters like Andre Russell, Asif Ali, and Carlos Brathwaite who can tear apart any bowling attack. They have one of the strongest pace bowling attacks with Oshane Thomas, Fidel Edwards, Carlos Brathwaite, and Russell in the playing XI.  Sandeep Lamichchame will be their key bowler in the absence of Shamsi and will partner Veerasamy Perumal. They have an excellent starting XI but lack proven T20 performers in the back-up players. We expect Jamaica Tallawahs to qualify for the semi-finals this season due to their batting firepower and pace bowling strength but they lack batting depth beyond no. 7 in the Xi and have inexperienced reserve players in the squad.

Top Jamaica Tallawahs players to bet on

  1. Andre Russell – Big-hitting middle-order batsmen & pace bowler
  2. Carlos Brathwaite – Big-hitting middle-order batsmen & pace bowler
  3. Sandeep Lamichchame – Leg-spinner
  4. Asif Ali – Top-order batsmen
  5. Chadwick Walton – Opening batsmen and wicket-keeper
