Liverpool eye celebratory win against struggling Aston Villa (2020-07-05)
English Premier League giants Liverpool will face struggling outfit Aston Villa in the matchday 33 tie at the Anfield on Sunday.
The home team, who have already won the league title—their first in 30 years—will come in the match as strong favourites despite suffering a thumping 4-0 defeat in their previous match against the former champions Manchester City.
Liverpool are still on their way to register the most number of points in a single season by any team in the history of the Premier League as they currently have 86 points after 32 matches and needing 15 more in the last six games of the season.
On the other hand, Villa are having a difficult first season back in the Premier League where they are involved in an intense relegation battle.
Villa are currently placed on the 18th position of the league table with 27 points after 32 matches, a point behind 17th-placed Watford with a game in hand.
The Villans’ recent form will not give manager Dean Smith a lot of hope in the match against the league leaders on Sunday as they’ve not won a single match in last 10 outings in all competitions which included eight defeats as well.
Villa’s last win came against Leicester City in the League Cup match in January earlier this year whereas their last victory in the Premier League came against fellow struggling outfit Watford on January 22nd.
Head to Head
In the previous matches between both teams, the newly crowned Premier League champions have a far superior record with 21 victories in 38 meetings which include seven defeats. In the meeting earlier in the competition, it was Liverpool who came out on top with the score of 2-1, courtesy late goals from full-back Andrew Robertson and winger Sadio Mane.
Players to watch out for
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
Mohammad Salah is Liverpool’s one of the most explosive players in the last three seasons ever since he joined the club from Italian Serie A outfit AS Roma. In the ongoing campaign, the Egypt international is the leading scorer for his club with 17 goals to his name along with seven assists. Therefore, manager Jurgen Klopp will be once again hoping to see his star player return to goalscoring form in the match on Sunday and produce a match-winning performance.
Jack Grealish (Aston Villa)
Jack Grealish is one of the hottest young property in the Premier League and has many suitors who are looking to make a move for him in the summer transfer window. The England U21 international is having a very good season on the personal level where he is the leading scorer for Villa with seven goals and the leading assist provider with six assists to his name. On Sunday, manager Smith will be hoping to see his star performer rise to the occasion by producing the goods on the field which can help his team in securing three crucial points in a bid to survive in the Premier League next season.
Prediction
Looking at both team’s recent form, the prediction is for Liverpool to win the match with a score of 3-1.
