Resurging Arsenal eye important win against Leicester City (2020-07-07)
English Premier League giants Arsenal will face Leicester City in the matchday 34 encounter at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
The home team will come in the match with a feel-good factor after registering a rather surprising but comprehensive 2-0 win in their previous match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Despite securing that important win, Arsenal are currently placed on the seventh position of the league table with 49 points after 33 matches, eight-behind fourth-placed Chelsea and therefore, manager Mikel Arteta will know that his team will have to win all the remainder of the matches in order to keep their hopes alive of securing a spot in Europe next season.
On the other hand, Leicester will come in this match under increasing pressure as their spot in the top-four is clearly on the line after a poor run of form.
Despite winning their previous match against Crystal Palace with a comfortable 3-0 margin, the Foxes are placed on the third position of the league table with 58 points after 33 matches, a point clear of fourth-placed Chelsea and just three clear of fifth-placed Manchester United.
Therefore, manager Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that his players will keep the momentum going and secure an important win on Tuesday.
Head to Head
In the previous encounter between the teams, Arsenal clearly have a far superior record with 12 wins and just three defeats. However, in the match earlier in the competition back in November 2019, it was Leicester who came out on top with the score of 2-0, courtesy goals from Jamie Vardy and James Maddison. In the previous meeting at the venue where the Tuesday’s match will be played, it was the Gunners who came out on top with the score of 3-1 in October 2018, courtesy a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a goal from Mesut Ozil.
Players to watch out for
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is undoubtedly Arsenal’s best player in the ongoing campaign. The Gabon international has been a prolific attacker for the North London-based outfit where he is the club’s leading scorer with 19 goals to his name in just 31 appearances.
Ever since Premier League returned after the coronavirus break, Aubameyang has managed to score two goals and provided an assist in five matches. Therefore, manager Arteta will be banking on his star performer to produce a match-winning display for his team on Tuesday.
Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)
Jamie Vardy is one of the prolific scorers in the Premier League over the last four seasons and this year, he is once again leading the line for Leicester City with great finesse.
The 33-year-old is by far the Foxes’ leading scorer in the campaign where he already has 21 goals to his name in 30 appearances. In Leicester’s win against Crystal Palace, Vardy scored a brace and ended his four-game goal drought and manager Rodgers will be hoping that his star performer will continue producing the goods on Tuesday and help the team in securing the Champions League football next season.
Prediction:
Looking at both team’s respective recent form, the prediction is for Leicester City to win the game with the score of 2-1.
