Under-pressure Chelsea eye win against struggling Watford (2020-07-04)

English Premier League giants Chelsea will face struggling outfit Watford in the matchday 33 clash at the Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Chelsea will be coming in the match as strong favorites despite suffering a shocking 3-2 defeat in their previous league fixture against West Ham United which weakened their position in the battle to cement the top-four spot.

Chelsea are still placed on the fourth position of the league table with 54 points, now just two clear of fifth-placed Manchester United and therefore, manager Frank Lampard will be hoping to see his players turn thing around and produce a positive result on Saturday.

Chelsea’s recent run of form will give Lampard and Co. a lot of hope going into the Saturday’s match where they have won four out of last six league matches.

Watford, on the other hand, are also coming in the match on the back of a poor result against Southampton where they suffered a 3-1 defeat which left them in a very tricky position on the league table where they are currently placed on the 17th spot with just 28 points after 32 matches, a point clear of 18th placed Bournemouth.

Watford’s recent run of form will give manager Nigel Pearson a cause of concern where his team have won just one out of last six league matches which included four defeats as well.

Head to Head:

In the previous matches between both teams, Chelsea have a far superior record compared to their rivals where they have won 13 out of 18 matches with just two defeats.

In the game earlier this season, it was Chelsea who came out on top with the score of 2-1 on November 2, 2019, courtesy goals from Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic.

Watford’s last win against Chelsea came in February 2018 when they registered a thumping victory while playing at home with the score of 4-1, courtesy goals from Troy Deeney, Daryl Janmaat, Gerard Deulofeu and Roberto Pereyra.

Players to watch out for:

Troy Deeney (Watford)

Troy Deeney is Watford’s talisman and has produced the goods time and again for his current club on the football pitch. The 32-year-old is Watford’s leading scorer in the league campaign this season with six goals but has not managed to score ever since the resumption of competitive football following the coronavirus outbreak.

On Saturday, manager Nigel Pearson will be hoping to see his star player finally end his four games goal-drought and produce a match-winning performance for the team.

Christian Pulisic (Chelsea)

Christian Pulisic is becoming a permanent member under Frank Lampard’s Chelsea after producing a number of impressive performances in the ongoing campaign. The USA international has been a livewire for Chelsea ever since the resumption of competitive football in England where he scored a goal against Aston Villa and Manchester City whereas his movements led to the Blues’ both goals in the defeat against West Ham.

In just 19 appearances for his new club in the league campaign, Pulisic already has seven goals and two assists to his name and therefore, Lampard will be once again hoping to see his star performer produce the goods for Chelsea on Saturday.

Looking at Chelsea’s defensive performance in the last match, Watford will be looking to take advantage and a 1-1 draw is the likely outcome.
