Under-pressure West Ham eye important win against in-form Burnley (2020-07-08)

Struggling West Ham United will face high-flying Burnley in the English Premier League matchday 34 clash at the London Stadium on Wednesday.

The home team will come in the match as underdogs, largely because of their league position where they are currently placed on the 16th spot with just 31 points after 33 matches, four clear of the drop zone.

Therefore, manager David Moyes will be hoping to see his team produce a positive result which can go a long way in helping the Hammers in securing a spot in England’s top division in the next campaign.

West Ham’s overall recent form does not make a pretty reading as they’ve suffered six defeats in last 10 matches in all competitions which include just two victories.

However, the last two games would give West Ham’s team management a lot of hope going into their next match as they registered a surprise wins against Chelsea and secured a tough 2-2 draw against Newcastle United in their most recent outings.

On the other hand, Burnley will be coming in this match high-on-confidence knowing that they have an outside chance of securing a spot in Europa League next season.

Currently, the Clarets are placed on the 10th position of the league table with 46 points after 33 matches, six behind sixth-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Burnley’s recent form is pretty impressive where in the last 10 league matches, they have only suffered a single defeat and went on to secure five victories.

Head to Head

In the previous meetings between the teams, West Ham clearly have an edge with 10 wins and just five defeats in a total of 19 matches. In the previous meeting earlier in the campaign, it was Burnley who came out on top with a thumping 3-0 win, courtesy goals from Ashley Barnes, Chris Wood and an own goal from Roberto.

In the previous meeting at the same venue where the Wednesday’s match will be played, it was West Ham, who came out on top with the score of 4-2, courtesy goals from Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and a brace from Felipe Anderson.

Players to watch out for:

Michail Antonio (West Ham)

Michail Antonio is West Ham’s most inform player on the attacking front. The 30-year-old has been a real livewire for the Hammers since the restart of the Premier League where he has already managed to score two goals and provided an assist in four outings.

Antonio was the star performer in West Ham’s crucial 3-2 win over Chelsea and manager Moyes will be hoping that his attacking player will produce another stellar performance on Wednesday.

James Tarkowski (Burnley)

James Tarkowski is one of Burnley’s best player in the ongoing campaign. The 27-year-old has been solid in the defensive line where he has made 1.7 interceptions per match, most by any Burnley player in the ongoing league campaign.

In the Clarets’ previous match, Tarkowski also scored an important goal for the team which was his second of the season. Therefore, manager Sean Dyche will be hoping to see his star centre-back produce another solid display which can help his team in securing a positive result n Wednesday.

Looking at both team’s recent form, the prediction is for Burnley to secure a 1-0 win.
